Caravan to Turkey: Verdun F

Thursday, 2 May 2013 at 13:52

560km in 67.9litres gasoil used

Verdun...where the most important battles of WW1 were fought..costing the lives of over 700,000 men.

Straightforward hop along the autoroute ..great new bypass around Rhiems..to impressive campsite..pitch next to a small lake. Must say, the rear view camera makes reversing the outfit a doddle. Look how near the lake we are..

After lunch, we walk into the town and do some of the tourist trail around the historic parts, most of which tell a story of the first WW and its horror. The underground citadel was fascinating, both from a historical standpoint and the fact that we sat in an automated buggy which worked out where it was by a scanner on the rear..reversing, turning...very ingenious, very French.

The town itself sits on the river with cafes for relaxing and people watching. Wonderful.

Will visit again.
